[VIDEO] UFC Fighter Chael Sonnen Reveals Why He Wanted CM Punk At UFC On FOX 2
Posted by Joseph Lee on 01.26.2012

Chael Sonnen was asked by MMAFighting.com why he wanted WWE Champion CM Punk to accompany him to his fight at UFC on FOX 2.

He said that Vince McMahon "had his reasons" for cancelling the appearance, which was in Punk's hometown of Chicago.

Sonnen said the two were friends, it's Punk's hometown and "there's major crossover." He added: "People are crossover fans and just kind of all-around fans, especially when you're talking about C.M. Punk here in Chicago. That guy is royalty around here. I think it would have been fun for both of us."

He also said the two will have dinner after the UFC fight, which takes place Saturday before WWE's Royal Rumble PPV in St. Louis.

next up McMahon has any wrestler sign over there rights to do any thing of free will unless it meets with McMahon thoughts of what all humanity should be. and we all know that is acting like his clones

Kenny Rice > Wes Kirk

Vince is too stupid to realize this.

It would be awesome to get Chael Sonnen in to professional wrestling. He gives a great promo. And with a little bit more polish, he could be one of the best mic guys in the business.

Yeah, what MMA needs is exactly more fake fighters.

Is this guy brain damaged?

Chael's promos are better than most sports entertainment promos.

Sonnen is so f'n great.

Why the hell wouldn't Vince want one of the few MMA guys that can talk like a wrestler to be associated with WWE. Sonnen and Punk coming out to Cult of Personality would be huge specially in Chicago.

I keep wanting to hate that guy, but he's so damn entertaining! Even if he does talk a load of wank.

Munoz would've smashed him.

That's a pretty dumb move by Vince. It's free publicity. Exposure of your WWE Champ. Unless they're gonna SWERVE us and have him have a surprise appearance.

Vince doesn't have a clue.

Vince sees it this way: he does not want giant ratings for a UFC TV show. Plain & simple. He is not looking at it any other way. Giant ratings for a "competing" product's show is arguably very bad news for WWE. So, there is some logic to his thinking.
